Watch: Future Chefs culinary competition

Five elementary students from LWSD schools participated in the "Future Chef" culinary competition on April 27. The students were picked from more than 240 submissions. Students were paired with a mentor and were challenged to create a recipe from scratch. LWSD Nutrition Services, operated by Sodexo, provided the mentors, who work in LWSD school kitchens. The theme was "your favorite fruit or vegetable side dish." Students prepared samples for all the judges as well as parents and other guests. Samples were scored on taste, presentation and creativity. The competition was extremely close, but judges named Charlotte Chong from Rose Hill Elementary School as Grand Prize winner for her Watermelon Feta Salad.
